Foreigner's passport

You live in the Netherlands and you don’t have the Dutch nationality. If you have a legitimate residence permit you can apply for a foreigner’s passport.

This is only possible when you can’t get a passport from your home country. Check with your consulate or embassy if this is the case. With the foreigner’s passport you can’t travel to your country of origin.

A foreigner’s passport is valid for a maximum of 5 years.

Conditions

There are some conditions. For example:

  • You have a valid residence permit.
  • You don’t have the Dutch nationality.
  • You can prove that you can’t get a passport from your home country.

Cost

A foreigner’s passport costs € 63,40 (2024).

Term

Around the school holidays the waiting can be a bit longer.
You will receive a message when your passport is ready. The application goes through the IND or the Minestry of Foreign Affairs.

Before you start

  • A valid residency document which states your nationality.
  • One passport photo in colour which meets the standards.
  • A debit card or cash.
  • Do you have some old traveling documents? Please take these with you, even if they are expired.

For children under the age of 18:

  • Please take a valid ID from both parents with you.
  • Use the consentform for the application. (Form is in Dutch)
